As already mentioned, the fadeexpanderstyle is great, except that it requires the content's height to be exposed whilst the expander is still in 'collapsed' mode. So it means you can't put some expanders in a vertical stackpanel. Is there any (simplish) modification to the style to allow the height of an expander with style fadeexpanderstyle to be 0 when collapsed?

Yes, you can customize the expand/collapse behavior by animating the width/height of content area instead of visibility (you may need to use a Transform since auto width/height can’t be animated). As for default behavior, a general guideline is to make it behave as much similar to its WPF counterpart as possible.

Except (there's always an except)... I use a custom header template with a button inside of it (styled naturally) and then it doesn't expand! Tried changing it to a label, etc, no go.
